Roses and Sparkles

Hebi to Maria to Otsukisama, by UNO Sanae, is awesome. About a girl named Fujoushi Sakurako who is, well, a Fujoshi. She’s the daughter of a famous romance novelist, and during the day she maintains a gentle, feminine image (beautiful, kind, says ‘gokigenyo!’ etc like the girls in Maria-sama ga Miteru) but she is really a HUGE boys love fan, and obsesses over her favorite BL mangaka, Maria Meg. Sakurako goes into 70’s shoujo manga sparkly mode constantly, and her favorite word seems to be ‘moeru!’ expecially when she sees 2 guys from her school standing near each other on the morning train. They look just like the guys in Maria Meg’s latest BL manga! She can already imagine them leaning close for a kiss…

Obligatory shoujo manga hilarity ensues, and the result is that Sakurako ends up having to work as a housekeeper for these 2 male classmates who turn out to be none other than the artist/writer team behind the BL mangaka identity of Maria Meg. They also like to act out BL scenarios and poses and ask Sakurako her opinion on them :) Moeru~!!

Sakurako’s mom is a BL fan too. When a handsome reporter and his handsome assistant come to interview the mom, the moment they leave, Sakurako and her mom turn to each other and proclaim “Assistant x Reporter!” “Reporter x Assistant!” and argue over who would be the top in the pairing ^^;;

There is, of course, more to the plot than this, and relationship angst and traumatic pasts and other stuff lurks beneath the surface, but this is the silly set up :)
